Penn State undergraduates who are presenting the results of their research or creative work at national or regional professional conferences may request travel support to help defray the costs of attending the conference.
Undergraduate Research Conference Travel Support is provided by matching funds from academic departments, colleges/campuses, the Schreyer Honors College when applicable, and the Office of Undergraduate Education. The contribution from Undergraduate Education is capped at $300 per student.
To be eligible for this funding, the student:
- must be an undergraduate
- must be presenting research or creative work at the conference
- must have a faculty supervisor who will provide a statement of endorsement for the conference attendance
Requests for research conference travel support should be submitted at least 30 days prior to the conference travel.

This form initiates an automated electronic path that requests a statement of support from the faculty supervisor for undergraduate conference travel support and then proceeds through each required approval and commitment of funds. The department will notify the student when the final approval is received.
Before completing the form, the student should:
- talk to his or her faculty mentor about attending the conference
- be accepted as a presenter on the conference program
- know the name, location, and dates of the conference
- determine itemized anticipated expenses (lodging, meals, registration, transportation, other)
Every effort should be made to keep expenses as low as possible (e.g., shopping for the lowest airfare, sharing hotel rooms when possible). Students traveling to the same conference should indicate comparable expenses.
